Get to know Las Palmas de Gran Canaria

Las Palmas is the capital of Gran Canaria, one of the seven islands that make up the Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands. Its population is 379,925 inhabitants and it is one of the most important cities in the region.

Regarding the climate, according to the Köppen climate classification, the city can be classified as hot desert climate. Other sources of information such as studios or tourist portals indicate that Las Palmas has one of the best climates in the world, which makes the city a perfect place to visit at any time of the year.

Its origin dates back to 1478, more specifically to June 24, the date on which the Castilian conqueror, Juan Rejón, founded the Real de Las Palmas. This event occurred where the Hermitage of San Antonio Abad is currently located.

By walking through its streets, the city allows us to know and relive part of its history. The Vegueta area houses buildings such as the Ermita de San Antonio de Abad and the Cathedral of Santa Ana, located in the squares that receive the same name as these buildings, in the latter, the Plaza de Santa Ana, the Town Halls are located , the Bishopric and the Regent House, within walking distance of our apartments. In this same area we can find museums such as the Casa Colón, the Canarian Museum and the Museum of Sacred Art. As a curious fact for art lovers, this neighborhood houses the Atlantic Center of Modern Art, whose history places it as one of the most avant-garde and interesting rooms on the national artistic scene. In front of the Vegueta Market we will find the Plaza de Cairasco, where the building of the Literary Cabinet is located, a cultural institution of the 20th century. Places such as the Teatro Pérez Galdós, Plaza de San Telmo, Ciudad Jardín, Plaza de Santa Catalina, Puerto de la Luz, Castillo de la Luz, Puerto Marítimo, Playa de las canteras and the Auditorium Alfredo Kraus .

To end our visit to this splendid city and admire it as it deserves, we can go up to the Caldera de Bandama, an old volcano where a viewpoint is located that shows us a panoramic view of Las Palmas.

It should be noted that the city has two bus stations (guaguas) in the San Telmo Parl and in the Santa Catalina Park with services that connect not only all the neigborhoods of the city, buet also all the municpalities of the island.

Without a doubt Las Palamas offers us a climate and a warm atmosphere that allows us to  enjoy this wonderful island city.
